Hooters Adds Clothes, Competition Strips Down

Listen to our chat about the new Hooters here.

Hooters has historically drawn customers with more than just delicious food. But the once popular chain is making some modifications that will focus more on food and less on the attractive servers dishing it. Meanwhile, Hooters’ competition is doing the opposite: they’ll serving more breasts and thighs, and less wings (read: their servers are nearly naked).

One man warned that the outfits the servers wear at Ojos Locos could get customers “in [even more] trouble” with their partners if they’re caught dining there. In a video with over 496,000 views, TikToker The Most Oblivious (@themostoblivious) warns men who “value their marriage” to steer clear of the popular sports cantina. He acknowledges that Ojos Locos has great food as well, but that excuse won’t help.

“Your girl is not gonna care if you go to Twin Peaks. Your girl is not gonna care if you go to Hooters. But you tell her you went to Ojos Locos? We might have to sign your death certificate.”

The standard Ojos Locos uniform is comparable with other chains like Hooters and Twin Peaks: a black mini skirt with a low-cut crop top. Many Ojos Locos locations, however, participate in frequent theme days, which may include more revealing outfits.

On Friday nights many Ojos Locos servers wear lingerie of their choice. BroBible previously reported that one Australian family was left in shock at the outfits after dining there on a Friday. Other locations participate in “Diabla Wednesdays,” where the servers also sport red, revealing outfits.

Ojos Locos Diabla Wednesday

On the r/restaurant subreddit, some Ojos Locos guests say they were shocked when they saw the servers’ outfits. Some customer experiences suggest the TikToker may be right that men will get “in trouble” with their partners.

Despite the TikToker’s warning, some couples shared they dine at Ojos Locos together. “Me and my man go together tho. It’s literally a restaurant guys,” one woman shared.

Are Partially-Nude Servers Safe?

Other than being murdered by your mate, there may be other health risks associated with eating at these establishments. In a video with over 6.2 million views, TikTok user Sarah May explains why she avoids any such restaurants.

“The thing that I don’t get about Ojos Locos and Hooters and Twin Peaks and stuff like that is that you’re bringing food to your table, right, but then you have, like, ass, like, straight ass cheeks just wafting over your food…I can’t get past the feeling I would get E. coli from just straight butt cheeks walking past my chicken wings.”

Hooters First Opened in the 80s

October 1983. The first Hooters opens in Clearwater, Florida, at the site of a former nightclub. While the six friends who founded the eventual empire knew little about restaurants, they knew what they liked. That included beer, Buffalo wings, sports, and whatever is appealing about the “Hooters Girls.” And  many others liked those things too. More than three decades later, the Hooters brand has grown into an international sensation, with more than 420 Hooters in 29 countries.

Like other casual dining chains, however, Hooters has faced declining foot traffic and growing overhead. In fact, Hooters spent most of 2025 navigating bankruptcy. As part of the company’s reorganization the “breastaraunt” is getting a family-friendly makeover. Per Neil Kiefer, CEO of HMC Hospitality Group—the parent company of the original founders—the eateries will do away with their infamous “Bikini Nights.” Those are the nights where waitresses ditch their already-skimpy outfits for two-piece swimsuits instead.

Kiefer is promising to overhaul the dining experience, too. This means changing up some of the recipes to include fresher ingredients, like real butter in the buffalo sauce that accompanies many of the restaurant’s items. He will also ensure that the company trains all servers on the proper way to serve.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Kiefer made it clear that he knows it’s the breasts, not the wings, that draw the bulk of the eatery’s customers nationwide. But that’s not the case in Clearwater, where women and children are often happily dining alongside the typically male clientele Hooters has always catered to.

Will this evolution of the chain rescue it from financial ruin or speed it? We’ll keep on eye on Hooters over the next year and see.
